Sunday Reflection #26   7 comments

Well first things first I must apologise for my absence I’d love to tell you I’ve been doing something really important or interesting instead of blogging…but well no I’m afraid I haven’t! Not sure what I’ve been doing other than blogging because I’m also ashamed to say it isn’t reading either! Only managed to read three books last month :-( Breaking news though I did get the job at the bar in the Snowdome, although the excitement of the Snowdome is a little waned seeing as we have snow everywhere anyway. Just look at my picture of my rather white and dead looking garden yes yes I know in other parts of the world this amount of snow is nothing but believe me this is a big deal in England. The roads are chaos as those in power never order enough salt to grit our roads and loads of people don’t bother to put anti-freeze in their cars so there are a lot of breakdowns, I haven’t got a shift at work till this weekend so I’ve just encamped myself in my house no point going out and adding to the chaos haha. Which means I’ve had plenty of time to watch the telly (and hopefully read books).

Currently set to record on my Sky+:
QI – a return of the hilarious quiz show hosted by Stephen Fry
Strictly Come Dancing – a return of my one and only reality tv fix
Stargate Universe – a return of one my favourite science fiction obsessions yes I’ve watched them all Stargate (the film), Stargate SG1, Stargate Atlantis and now this
Fringe – a return of super creepy science fiction show my Dad watches but I’ve become a little hooked on too (on a break)
The Pillars of the Earth - a new adaptation of Ken Follet’s medieval saga by Channel 4
Merlin - a return of the BBC’s ‘tongue in cheek’ adaptation of the King Arthur and Merlin legend for a 3rd season
Lie to Me - return of the hit US show starring Tim Roth as a lie expert for a 3rd season (on a break)
Any Human Heart - new drama/adaptation on Channel 4 starring Jim Broadbent and Matthew McFadyen
True Stories: The Battle for Barking – a Laura Fairrie’s film which covers the battle between Labour and BNP party for the constituency of Barking in the 2010 General Election
I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here! - not something I usually watch all that much of but it hasn’t half been hilarious the episodes I’ve seen, so now I have two reality tv fixes
Al Murray’s German Adventure - a BBC Four documentary which follows the comedian Al Murray as he tries to discover the real Germany
Julia Bradbury’s German Wanderrlust - another BBC Four documentary this time following Julia Bradbury as she explores Germany’s love of walking ‘wanderlust’

When I look at it like this it doesn’t seemed that much to be watching however it does seem to have taken up a lot of my time. On Thursday I posted my review of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 which I hoped you enjoyed but I have also watched the 1966 adaptation of Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451 which I hope to have typed up and posted sometime next week. Plus the reviews of two books I have managed to read first Ray Bradbury’s Something Wicked This Way Comes and M C Beaton’s Agatha Raisin and the Walkers of Dembley, again they should be up next week. I’m hoping if I set myself little deadlines like this I will get in the swing of blogging again pretty quick. I just think we all need a little break now and again don’t we?

How have you all been? What have you been reading, watching and doing? x x x x

  2. TV can be the real killer for reading, alas it happens. I am really enjoying Michael Cox, “The Glass of Time.” It’s a sequel to “The Meaning of Night” and is a great look at London in the mid 1900′s with some wickedness, literature, and mystery thrown in.

    • Yes it certainly can but to be honest I only really have this problem in winter when they put more tv shows on. Ooo wickedness and mystery sound good I must admit though I’ve never heard of this author or books, will have to check them out at some point :-)

  3. Yes, a break is absolutely necessary. I’ve been seeing footage of the snow you guys have been getting, and even how much New York state has gotten, and I’ve been jealous. We’ve only just had some flurries here in Southern New England and it’s bumming me out!

My current reads are: “Into Thin Air” (an account of the 1996 Everest disaster), “The Satanic Verses” (part of my self-imposed banned book challenge), “The Communist Manifesto”, and “The Life of Muhammed”. Pretty sure “Fahrenheit 451″is on my banned book list so I’ll be partaking of him soon, I think. :)

Take your time and enjoy the holiday season! Also, congratulations on your new job!

    • I must be a bit of bah-humbug because I’m not a huge fan of the snow, its pretty to look at first then it just becomes a nuisance lol especially when you can’t even get off of your street! But oh well the roads have thawed out now but the trees are still iced over which is very pretty :-)

My you have got a lot of different reading going on there, how do you do it?! I’m only managing two books at the moment.

Hope you’re enjoying the holiday season too!

  4. You are watching too much TV, that’s why you are not reading!! LOL.. :D

I watched Kara on Strictly yesterday, I am always mesmerised by her every performance. You can’t tell she is the amateur! I am pinning for her to win, but Scott and Matt is just as good, and the judges love Pamela, and I’m wondering if Anne will win the show.. *Aghast!!!*

Who would you like to see win this year?

    • I know I am a bad person! But this time of year always has the best telly on! It actually gets worse as well because this list doesn’t include the films I have recorded :-S

Kara is amazing but it has to be Matt for me :-D I absolutely adored him as Austin Powers and those gymnastic skills!! I find Anne and Anton so amusing but you’re right I wouldn’t want them to win haha.
