The Classics Club | Spin #23

Hello my fellow bookworms, I’m pleased to announce it’s time for The Classic Club’s 23rd Spin! To join in simply list any 20 books that remain on your Classics Club list before Sunday, 19th April 2020. On that day, the club will announce the winning number and then all you have to do is read the corresponding book by Monday, 1st June 2020. Here is my list:

  1. Mansfield Park by Jane Austen [re-read]
  2. Northanger Abbey by Jane Austen [re-read]
  3. Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen [re-read]
  4. Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen [re-read]
  5. Agnes Grey by Anne Brontë
  6. The Professor by Charlotte Brontë
  7. A Princess of Mars by Edgar Rice Burroughs
  8. Tarzan of the Apes by Edgar Rice Burroughs
  9. Nicholas Nickleby by Charles Dickens [re-read]
  10. The Lost World by Arthur Conan Doyle
  11. The Black Tulip by Alexandre Dumas
  12. Kim by Rudyard Kipling
  13. The Man Who Would Be King by Rudyard Kipling
  14. Anne of Green Gables by Lucy Maud Montgomery
  15. The Black Corsair by Emilio Salgari
  16. Black Beauty by Anna Sewell
  17. Ivanhoe by Sir Walter Scott [Re-Read]
  18. Heidi by Johann Spyri
  19. The Invisible Man by H. G. Wells
  20. The Island of Doctor Moreau by H. G. Wells

As per usual, I haven’t dramatically changed anything – I have just replaced the books I have read from the list since the last Spin. Two of the books chosen to fill in the gaps are two more re-reads of Jane Austen and two more H. G. Well’s novel, which I hope, along with the other shorter classics and re-reads already on my list, will help bump my numbers up.

Come back this Sunday to discover what the result is. Wish me luck and bye for now!

Now over to you: Off my list what book do you think would be good for me to get? If you are also planning to take part in the Spin, please link in your post in the comments below, so I can come check out your list, too.

  1. I will always wish you a Jane Austen reread. Kicking myself now for not including one on my list! Oh wait! I haven’t posted my list yet – let me just race off a tweak …….

  2. There are lots of great books on your list. Of the ones I’ve read, The Black Tulip, Anne of Green Gables and Black Beauty are my favourites. I hope you’re happy with the result on Sunday!

  3. If you have not read Anne of Green Gables before, I am pretty sure you will love it when you do.

  4. I’m sure you will find pleasure in whatever you end up with, as I reckon all the titles on your list are worth reading at some point. As an aside, have you ever taken part in Austen in August? I can’t remember where the meme originally came from, but it does what it says on the tin really, and I think you might enjoy it.

  5. Good luck with your spin.
Sorry I’ve not been around much, isolation has sent me into a slump. I’ll be hoping to catch up with everyone soon.
    Stay safe 😀
    Lynn 😀
