Good morning, fellow bookworms. It is ‘Hump Day’ Wednesday which means we are halfway through the working week (if you’re at work) and it is time for WWW Wednesday! A weekly meme hosted by Taking on a World of Words, which simply involves answering the following Three Ws:

Currently Reading: The modern, suspense classic The Moonspinners by Mary Stewart, which has helped me escape the miserable weather of the UK to the sun-drenched island of Crete. Where a young Englishwoman, Nicola Ferris finds herself caught up in a dangerous intrigue, as she tries to help her fellow countryman, who is gravely injured. Reading this, I can’t believe I have waited so long to read more by Stewart!
I have also recently picked up the Regency classic Persuasion by Jane Austen for a comforting re-read, after it was chosen for me in The Classics Club‘s latest Spin event.
Recently Finished: First the easy-going, crime-fiction Agatha Raisin and the Wellspring of Death by M. C. Beaton, which is the sixth book in Beaton’s long-running, cosy-crime series. We re-join our smart dressing, retired-PR executive Agatha for another bumbling, amateur investigation, after she discovers the body of Robert Struthers, chairman of Ancombe Parish Council, who was embrangled in an argument with new mineral-water company over the village well where he was found. A fun, cosy-crime to get lost in.
Then the Viking, murder mystery, Council by Snorri Kristjansson, which is the highly anticipated, second Helga Finnsdottir book. Set five years after the first book, Kin, Council sees Helga caught up in a new string of murders surrounding an important meeting at the court of King Eirik. I absolutely flew through this heart-pounding, page-turner, which had me gripped from start to finish, and what a finish! I need to know what happens next, now! I hope I don’t have to wait too long for the next book!
Reading Next: I am tempted by either the mystery-thriller The Virgin of the Wind Rose by Glen Craney or historical fiction Her Kind by Niamh Boyce, about the Kilkenny Witch Trial. Both of which I think could be good for continuing my suitably dark and mysterious reading, that is perfect for this time of year and the R.eaders I.mbibing P.eril XIV reading challenge.

Lynn, Mary Stewart is best known for her many modern, suspense classics and an Arthurian saga; the latter of which of have yet to read, but I have a few of the books from the saga lined up on my Kindle. 🙂
I have been reading Mary Stewart’s books in the order she wrote them. My next to last one was The Moonspinners and I enjoyed it as much as I have any of her books. Her heroines are so brave and resourceful.
Judy, I too love have brave and resourceful her heroines, without ever being over-the-top or unbelievable. I just finished reading The Moonspinners and thought it was brilliant. 🙂
All these three sound delightful reading for the R.I.P. event. I hope more mysteries find your way. I haven’t read any Mary Stewart’s, or Persuasion, for that matter, though I have some Austens on my TBR. I’m currently reading The World That We Knew, Alice Hoffman’s latest effort. At nearly 100 pages, it is hauntingly beautiful so far.

So many people seem to love Persuasion the most of Austen’s books! It’s my favourite too 🙂 I’ve only read one Mary Stewart, Thornyhold, which would have made a good RIP read on reflection. I enjoyed that one and keep meaning to try more from her. I do love hearing about everyone’s seasonal reads at this time of year too 🙂

I have not heard of Mary Stewart but now I really want to read some of her work! This is the best part of WWW isn’t it, finding all the new books? My poor TBR….
I also have Persuasion on my shelf and I should try reading it. Perhaps next month when the spooky books have cleared my shelf.

Oh Mary Stewart is a wonderful author, but one I didn’t know about until I started blogging. So yes, blogging and memes like WWW are a great way to find new books and authors, but yes, our poor TBR! Also I hope you will enjoy Persuasion when you have chance to read it, as it is one of my favourite of Austen’s wonderful novels. 🙂
I loved The Moonspinners. Mary Stewart’s books are perfect for when you want to escape from the real world for a little while. Her Kind sounds intriguing – I’ll be interested to hear more about it!

I would love to read The Moonspinners and really hope you are enjoying it. (Sorry about the bad UK weather) I loved the movie as a kid, as I was a huge Hayley Mills fan. Also, Persuasion is my 2nd favorite Jane Austen book. Love it!
