🙏 Sunday Reflection | 9th May 2021 ☔

Hello everyone and a blessed Sunday to you all. I hope this post finds you all well. A miserable first week of May has passed and now it is time to reflect on what we’ve been doing, reading and watching over that time.

I hate to be so stereotypically British by talking about the weather, but oh boy has it been horrible this week: cold, wet and windy, and even hail on one day! 🥶 Where has spring gone?! This meant no outdoor meetings with friends or family this week, and we had to move our timetable round at school to get our outdoor P.E. lessons on a reasonable morning. But otherwise a good week with ‘my boys’ and colleagues.

Also I have successfully continued my healthy food plan to get back to cooking and making fresh, homemade lunches and evening meals. This included making a big batch of one of my favourites: Tomato and Tarragon Soup (Quick Cooking by Mary Berry), yesterday, to freeze in portions for warm and nutritious lunches in the week. 🥣

One positives of the rotten weather (I promise this is the last time I will mention the weather!) is it has increased my reading time! First I finished reading the classic adventure The Lost World by Arthur Conan Doyle, which was my result for The Classics Club 26th Spin Event, and then the modern gothic collection The Birds & Other Stories by Daphne du Maurier, all ready to post my review next week for the Daphne du Maurier Reading Week 2021.

Now I am currently reading the historical-fiction Anna of Kleves: The Queen of Secrets by Alison Weir, the fourth book in Weir’s ambitious Six Tudor Queens series, and I have started dipping in and out of The Red-Haired Archaeologist Digs Israel by Amanda Hope Haley. As well as my continued daily Holy Bible readings, from the books of Luke and Acts, to catch-up with The Bible Course I was taking part in.

As for my viewing, I finished watching series 2 of the WWII drama Das Boot – a sequel to the 1981 film and based on Lothar-Günther Buchheim’s novels: Das Boot and Die Festung – that follows the claustrophobic life aboard U-612 and the resistance growing around the U-Boat station in La Rochelle, France. A tense and stark show, that I had to take my time with. ⚓

I haven’t decided what series to start next and I didn’t watch any new-to-me films either, however I did enjoy comforting re-watches of Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981), The Hunger Games (2012) and Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984). 🛕

Finally, here on the blog I posted my wrap-up post for April; I took part in this week’s Top Ten Tuesday | My Ten Most Recent Reads; and I shared my review of the elegant Edwardian classic A Room With a View by E.M. Forster. Hopefully I can keep this regular blogging malarkey up! 😅
