πŸ™ Sunday Reflection | 9th May 2021 β˜”

Hello everyone and a blessed Sunday to you all. I hope this post finds you all well. A miserable first week of May has passed and now it is time to reflect on what we’ve been doing, reading and watching over that time.

πŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œ Life πŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œ

I hate to be so stereotypically British by talking about the weather, but oh boy has it been horrible this week: cold, wet and windy, and even hail on one day! πŸ₯Ά Where has spring gone?! This meant no outdoor meetings with friends or family this week, and we had to move our timetable round at school to get our outdoor P.E. lessons on a reasonable morning. But otherwise a good week with ‘my boys’ and colleagues.

Also I have successfully continued my healthy food plan to get back to cooking and making fresh, homemade lunches and evening meals. This included making a big batch of one of my favourites: Tomato and Tarragon Soup (Quick Cooking by Mary Berry), yesterday, to freeze in portions for warm and nutritious lunches in the week. πŸ₯£

πŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œ Books πŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œ

One positives of the rotten weather (I promise this is the last time I will mention the weather!) is it has increased my reading time! First I finished reading the classic adventure The Lost World by Arthur Conan Doyle, which was my result for The Classics Club 26th Spin Event, and then the modern gothic collection The Birds & Other Stories by Daphne du Maurier, all ready to post my review next week for the Daphne du Maurier Reading Week 2021.

Now I am currently reading the historical-fiction Anna of Kleves: The Queen of Secrets by Alison Weir, the fourth book in Weir’s ambitious Six Tudor Queens series, and I have started dipping in and out of The Red-Haired Archaeologist Digs Israel by Amanda Hope Haley. As well as my continued daily Holy Bible readings, from the books of Luke and Acts, to catch-up with The Bible Course I was taking part in.

πŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œ TV & Films πŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œ

As for my viewing, I finished watching series 2 of the WWII drama Das Boot β€“ a sequel to the 1981 film and based on Lothar-GΓΌnther Buchheim’s novels: Das Boot and Die Festung – that follows the claustrophobic life aboard U-612 and the resistance growing around the U-Boat station in La Rochelle, France. A tense and stark show, that I had to take my time with. βš“

I haven’t decided what series to start next and I didn’t watch any new-to-me films either, however I did enjoy comforting re-watches of Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981), The Hunger Games (2012) and Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984). πŸ›•

πŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œ Blog πŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œ

Finally, here on the blog I posted my wrap-up post for April; I took part in this week’s Top Ten Tuesday | My Ten Most Recent Reads; and I shared my review of the elegant Edwardian classic A Room With a View by E.M. Forster. Hopefully I can keep this regular blogging malarkey up! πŸ˜…

For now, that’s all folks! Today, I am looking forward to a morning service at a local church and a quiet afternoon of reading, blogging and cooking. I hope to catch up with you all next Sunday. Where ever you are in the world, I hope you and your loved ones are well: staying healthy and happy. God bless and bye for now! πŸ‘‹

(I have linked this post into the weekly meme, The Sunday Post)

Now in the comments let me know: How you are? What you have been reading and watching? Or please leave a link to your own Sunday post. I love to chat with you all!

  1. I am sorry the weather made you postpone some of your plans with friends. More reading time is always a plus though. My husband really likes the Indiana Jones movies. We’ve been thinking of watching them again too. I hope you have a great week!

  2. LOL!! Well, I’m Dutch and I can totally relate with you about the weather. It hasn’t been that well here either. It’s seems nice one moment and soon after it’s raining like crazy. I’m so ready for Summer.
Have a great week and happy reading.

  3. Oh I hate hail! It can be so destructive. We’ve been alternating between beautiful days and storms. Today was a storm day which I don’t mind if I don’t have to go anywhere! I need to start cooking at home more. I’m working on it but definitely need to get more in the habit. I have a few Mary Berry cookbooks that I should pull off the shelf. Have a great week!

    1. Thank you, Katherine πŸ™‚ I hope the weather will improve for you too and that you will chance to pull those Mary Berry cookbooks off the shelf and put them to good use.

  4. Mmm thanks for telling us about the tomato & tarragon soup! I found the recipe online. It will be more difficult for me to find fresh tarragon leaves here in Arkansas. LOL

    1. I’m glad you found the Tomato and Tarragon soup recipe online Jinjer and I wouldn’t worry about getting fresh tarragon, as I use a teaspoon of dried tarragon instead.

  5. Your kitty looks cozy! Hope you get some nicer weather, Jessica. It can be depressing freeze all the time. Loved the Indiana Jones movies! Enjoy your books and have a lovely week!

  6. My reading is still severely lacking at the moment, however I have been watching some films. Last night I watched The Highwaymen on Netflix.

  7. I’ve seen the Hitchcock adaptation of The Birds, but I’ve never read it. How did I miss the Daphne du Maurier reading week??!! NOOOO!!! I would have loved that. I love Daphne du Maurier.

I think the lovely rainy weather seems perfectly wonderful. We’ve also had some rain, but we need a whole lot more to get out of the current drought.

Hope you will have a good week and happy reading!

    Thanks for visiting us earlier.

    1. Aw Mareli to be fair when I posted this you hadn’t missed the Daphne du Maurier week as it started on the 10th April and ends tomorrow. I posted my review for The Birds & Other Stories today. πŸ™‚

  8. The weather here in Chicagoland has been cold as of late. Bah! Tomato and Tarragon Soup by Mary Berry. I need to get that cookbook. I hope the weather perks up for you this coming week, gloomy wet days are so dispiriting

  9. I like the sound of that soup. I know we are meant to be in warmer days but sometimes I just want to snuggle up with the heating on and something comforting to heat so this sounds perfect

  10. Weather is always a good topic for discussion. πŸ˜ƒ Hail is never pleasant and we had a bit here recently, too. Things are fairly warm here, bringing more storms and possible severe weather.

I hope you’re enjoying your quiet afternoon and have a wonderful (warmer, dryer) week ahead.

  11. Sounds like a great week ahead. Enjoy the day, and hopefully the weather will improve. Our worst weather is usually the hot summers…but so far, things are moderate.

Thanks for visiting my blog, and enjoy your week.
