🙏 Sunday Reflection | 9th January 2022 🥶

Hello everyone and a blessed Sunday to you all! 🙏 I hope this post finds you all well. A cold, busy week has flown by and now it is time to reflect on what we’ve been doing, reading, and watching over that time.

I returned to work on Tuesday for a full inset day of Schools First Aid training, that was delivered by the brilliant St John’s Ambulance, and which means I am a qualified first aider again. The pupils returned on Wednesday and well after that is was a bit of a blur of lessons, staff absences, cold weather, planning and generally, getting back into the swing of things! ⏰

Of an evening, I mainly just got myself home, fed and into bed early for snuggles with my cat (she’s been missing me in the day); except Tuesday evening where I popped to a planning meeting for a local charity after work. Over the weekend, I popped out to get my fringe cut and do a bit of shopping on Saturday, and this morning, I went to church and then round to my grandad’s for lunch.

Over the Christmas period, when I had the chance I enjoyed escaping into The Game by Laurie R. King (2004), the seventh Mary Russell & Sherlock Holmes mystery, which whisked me away to the warmth and colour of India on the trail of Rudyard Kipling’s famous spy Kimball O’Hara. Another nostalgic mystery adventure. 🔎

Then I started reading The Curse Keepers by Denise Grover Swank (2013) on my Kindle, but after six chapters it was clear this supernatural romance wasn’t for me, so unfortunately, I had to DNF. I replaced it with the dual-narrative historical-fiction, The Lost Diary of Venice by Margaux Deroux (2020), which has been transporting me back to the late Renaissance Venice, through the eyes of the artist, Giovanni Lomazzo. 🖼

I have also been dipping in and out of my Holy Bible and my beautiful new book, Celtic Daily Prayer: Book One by the Northumbria Community (2015), which I am hoping to get into a routine with to improve my scripture reading and prayer life. ✝

As for my viewing, except for some of the videos of my favourite YouTubers, I have pretty much watched nothing new! 😱 However I have started re-watching series one of the British supernatural drama, A Discovery of Witches (2018-2022), in preparation for watching the third and final series which has just been released on Sky/NOW TV. 🧙‍♀️

Last but least, here are the post and reviews I have shared with you over the last week:

  1. Your cat looks adorable:). I recall just how hectic the first week of a new term is – there aren’t enough hours in the day to get it all done. And that was before having to deal with covid! I’m also looking forward to rewatching A Discovery of Witches. Have a great week, Jessica – and many thanks for swinging by:)).

  2. OMG.. I can’t wait to watch the new series of A Discovery of Witches. It’s one of my favorite series, and I loved the first two series. And I just love Matthew Goode 😀
Have a great week and happy reading.

  3. We went back to school today and I can’t believe the school year is ahead of us.

You are on the right track for the new year for sure! Here’s to staying on it!

  4. Sounds like you had a busy first week back! It sounds like you have been enjoying your reading, with the exception of that one book. I hope The Lost Diary of Venice was a much better fit for you. I just started watching season one of A Discovering of Witches. I’ve only seen the first episode so far. I loved the books. This is my first time watching the series. I hope you have a great week!

  5. Sounds like you’ve had a busy week! Discovery of Witches sounds interesting. Hope you love the last season! Happy reading, Jessica!

  6. You have me intrigued by The Lost Diary of Venice! I hope there will be a review in the not so distant future. 🙂 It sounds like it might be my kind of book.
